雑誌業界大手の Time が Coinbase と提携してビットコインの受付を開始

先日の Microsoft に続き、また大手がビットコインを採用しました。今度は雑誌業界の大手です。

Time Inc., one of the world’s leading media companies, announced today that it is now accepting bitcoin through an integration with Coinbase. Consumers can now pay for digital and print subscriptions of Fortune, Health, This Old House and print subscriptions of Travel + Leisure using bitcoin.

ビットコインの採用を決めた Time は、Time や Fortune などで知られる出版社です。決済機能は、Coinbase との提携で実現しています。
この提携について、Coinbase と Time の双方から発表されています。

Time Inc. (NYSE:TIME) has partnered with Coinbase, the most popular bitcoin wallet, to become the first major magazine publisher to accept bitcoin payments. The initiative launched today with Fortune, Health, This Old House and Travel + Leisure, now accepting bitcoin among the wide variety of payment options for subscriptions.

Microsoft は BitPay と提携しました。Coinbase と BitPay の競争で、市場が拡大しています。

ビットコインの価値は今後上がる？Coinbase の評価額は $400M

Coinbase が新たな資金調達を進めているとの情報が出ました。

Coinbase, a company that lets people store and buy the digital currency bitcoin, is in the process of raising a giant new investment that will value it around $400 million, multiple sources told Re/code.

今回の調達において、評価額は $400M（約460億円）との情報です。ビットコイン関連企業の評価が上がっています。
この評価額について、ビットコインの市場価値と比較して不釣合いなのではないかという意見も出ています。

$400M だと、ビットコイン全体の価値の10分の1に匹敵するという指摘です。ビットコインの価値はもっと大きいはずです。
つまり、Coinbase の評価額を起点として考えると、ビットコインの価格はまだまだ上だということになります。
非常に良い指摘だと思います。ビットコインの市場価値が冴えない日々が続いていますが、仮想通貨の市場で勝負をしている Coinbase を投資家が $400M と評価した事実が出来上がることになります。情報の通り資金調達が成功した場合は、です。
この評価は、短期的なビットコインの価格に影響を与えるのでしょうか。資金調達が正式に成功するまで、引き続き見て行きたいと思います。

ついに！PayPal がビットコインの受付を開始

大きいニュースが出ました。まだ限定的な動きではありますが、確実に前進しています。

Today we are excited to reveal our relationship with PayPal to increase the adoption of bitcoin worldwide. The first project we have completed is an integration with PayPal’s Payments Hub, which is their alternative payments platform for digital goods. Customers with a bitcoin wallet will be able to pay participating merchants in bitcoin for games, music, videos, news, ebooks, and other digital content.

提携を発表した BitPay からも、情報が出ています。まずは、デジタル商品の決済にビットコインが使えるようになるとのことです。

Earlier this month we announced that businesses working with Braintree will soon be able to accept Bitcoin as a payment option through their innovative v.zero SDK and relationship with Coinbase.
Today we are announcing PayPal’s next step in helping merchants accept Bitcoin payments. PayPal has entered into agreements with leading Bitcoin payment processors BitPay, Coinbase and GoCoin. Starting today, these agreements let PayPal digital goods merchants accept Bitcoin with a simple integration through the PayPal Payments Hub. This will be available to merchants in North America first.

PayPal の子会社である Braintree は、Coinbase と組んでビットコイン決済への対応を発表しています。それに加えて、今回は BitPay や GoGoin とも提携を行いました。デジタル商品の販売に利用されている PayPal の決済機能に、ビットコインを選択肢として加えるためです。
今回の仕組みは、北米でのみスタートされるようです。他の国にも広がる事を期待したいと思います。
関連会社がいろいろ登場するため関係が複雑ですが、eBay グループがビットコインに積極的ということだけは、はっきりしています。
今回の提携を受けて、ビットコイン価格は急上昇しています。

メキシコのセブンイレブンがビットコインに対応

中米メキシコにもビットコインの波が訪れるのでしょうか。メキシコのセブンイレブンがビットコインに対応しました。
しかし、完全な対応というわけではありませんので、いまのところはそれほど大きなインパクトはありません。

We had many different Subways begin to accept Bitcoin a few months ago, and now you can also use Bitcoin as a payment option at the 7-Elevens and Ghandi bookstores in Mexico. Although these stores are not accepting bitcoins directly, they accept payments from something called the Pademobile wallet. You can link your Coinbase account to this mobile wallet, which allows you to send payments with nothing more than a cell phone number.

直接ビットコインで支払いができるというわけではありません。Pademobile というスマートフォン向けのビットコインウォレットサービスと Coinbase を連携させて、ようやく使えるようになるとのことです。
現状ではいろいろと課題があるようですが、セブンイレブンでビットコインが使えるというのは明るいニュースです。今後、東南アジア圏でも同様の動きが広がることを期待したいと思います。

PayPal の公式チャンネルに投稿された動画の中で、ビットコインを使えるという表現が出てきます。
この動画は、PayPal の子会社 Braintree と Coinbase の提携を意味しています。

Today at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, we announced the general availability of One Touch™ mobile payments with PayPal, the industry’s first and only single touch payment experience on iOS (and in public beta on Android).

Braintree は、iPhone の画面を数回のタッチをするだけで支払いができる製品を発表しました。その際、ビットコインでも支払いができるようになるというのが今回の動画が意味しているところです。

We’re happy to announce a new partnership with online and mobile payments platform Braintree that will enable its vast portfolio of merchants to begin seamlessly accepting bitcoin on any device. Developers at Coinbase and Braintree will be working together closely to complete the integration in the next few months.

ビットコインを採用するために、Coinbase との提携が発表されています。Braintree が決済機能を提供している店舗に対して、ビットコインを新たな選択肢として提供する計画です。
実店舗への展開という意味ではまだまだですが、Braintree が得意とするオンラインのショッピングサイトや Web アプリなどで、ビットコインが使える場所が増えます。ビットコイン決済の市場に、大きな変化が訪れようとしています。

ブロックチェーンの情報を開発者に提供している Chain が資金調達を実行しました。

Block-chain API provider Chain has raised new investment of $9.5m, bringing its total funding so far to $13.7m.

調達金額は、$9.5M（約9億5千万円）です。これによって、トータルの調達金額は $13.7M（約13億7千万円）となります。CrunchBase にも詳細があります。

The company, which helps developers build bitcoin apps by providing fast access to the block chain, received the funding from a number of investors including Kevin Ryan, Barry Silbert, Scott Banister, Homebrew, 500 Startups and Pantera Capital.

Chain は、開発者がブロックチェーンの情報にアクセスするための API を提供しています。Chain のおかげで、開発者はビットコイン関連のアプリを作りやすくなります。今回の投資をした個人投資家や VC も公開されています。ビットコイン関連スタートアップにも積極的に投資している、500 Startups も含まれています。
先日の Coinbase による Blockr.io 買収のニュースもそうですが、どんどんビットコイン関連スタートアップのエコシステムが形成されてきていることが読み取れます。ビットコイン関連の製品を開発する環境が整い、イグジットの実例も出てきました。
この流れは、今後もビットコイン関連スタートアップの資金調達を後押しすることになります。新しい波が来ています。

それにしても、Chain は良いドメインネームを持っていますね。
