My working space at home

I heard that Japanese geeks’re in Kansai area today but couldn’t join cos my work.

Studying at cafe in this morning like this.

Delicious.

This is my working space at home. In fact here is a living room so it’s not my desk but I like sitting on a couch and work with HHK like this. And I also like 5.1ch speakers around here to listen music in my iTunes library or some songs from Muxtape and Last.fm. MacBook on the right is encoding a video I edited.

Thought about Digg's evolution

Digg launches a recommendation engine which rumored these days. Read Kevin’s entry below for more detail. There’re some videos about it.

Digg the Blog » Blog Archive » Recommendation Engine rolling out this week!

To be honest, it was little bit quick move than I thought but was made the recommendation engine to more an important factor for all of these kinda social web apps. SBM services include del.icio.us may get a similar feature soon.

We’re keep walking but thought it’s a hard thing to do something even if it’s clear.

Anyway, will write some code.

iPhone released in Japan

Finally, iPhone released here in Japan. However I can’t buy it today, I’m in Yodobashi Camera Umeda now 😛

Just came here to see the release event of the iPhone. Here is a video of the historical countdown with Dante Carver well known as "Yosou GUY" on TV commercials of SoftBank and a VP guy. Maybe he is a VP of SoftBank Mobile I think but not sure.

You can see a gap between US and Japan over the audience. Only a MC and some staff of the Yodobashi Camera are shouting. But don’t worry, all of us are excited.

There’re no more numbered ticket to get it here but I already reserved one at another place.

Hey, if you’re in Japan especially around Osaka, you should watch TV news tonight and find a guy wearing an orange shirt and a black sunglasses. It’s me!

Monthly fee for the iPhone in Japan

Nice price! SoftBank did it! 7,280 yen for internet connection and basic rate of calling. And 23,040 yen for the iPhone itself.

Time to say good bye to docomo, though we had over 10 years relationship. I may not regret about it and never back to docomo again.

When can I get lined up at Apple Store Shinsaibashi?

ToDo

  • Break up with Willcom till the end of Jun cos I already got an emobile
  • Switch to SoftBank from docomo for the iPhone

A man on polaroid photos

Busy days. And couldn’t update here.

It’s really fun for me to work like this but one blog post reminds me something important for our life. Just found it, touched, and some feelings push me to write this entry.

mental_floss Blog » He Took a Polaroid Every Day, Until the Day He Died

Via Digg. Really touched for me, especially the last few days.

Yes. Life is sort. We live once. Do something you want every single day.

Learn engineer's mind from Dr.Fuyutsuki

Fuyustuki: “What’s your mission?”

Asuka: “Operating the EVA.”

Fuyutsuki: “NO! To beat the Angels!”

What’s our mission? Writing some code? No, solve the problems.

Don’t try to look cool. It makes problems bigger sometimes and you may have to get help by UN. Just beat the Angels intently paying no attention. If your mission may not to beat it, you can choose what you shold do.

Rei: “You’ll never die. I’ll protect you.”

Workaholic or not

In my opinion, it’s important to be a workaholic for any startups. Thesedays I’m working with a great mentor who is a tipical workaholic man.

Jason Calacanis the CEO of Mahalo posted an interesting blog entry like below.

How to save money running a startup (17 really good tips)

Fire people who are not workaholics…

Then David Heinemeier on 37signals agrees the intention. However he said he don’t think it’s not good to fire people who aren’t workaholics. There’re reasons why David thinks like that on the blog of 37signals.

Fire the workaholics – (37signals)

I know 37signals decided to work only 4 days a week recently. It means no workaholics they need.

Let me say my thought again. I think it’s important to be a workaholics for any startups in a very early stage. Guys in 37signals may worked like that before, I thought. And they still work like that but they don’t think it’s just work, it’s just for fun for them.

Hey, do you think they could success and respected without hardwork? I don’t think so! I think David means compulsory overwork will not works well all the time. Not just means workaholics sucks.

If everyone in your team works like workaholics without any forcing and stresses, it means you already have a big possibility. In that way, I think I need to be more carefully to find someone work with.

I said I’ll work 12 hours a day in my new year’s resolution but I changed it at a beginning of March. It’s 16 hours a day.
