The CEO and chairman of American Express spoke out on digital currencies at the New York Times DealBook conference in Manhattan on Thursday.
発言は、先週ニューヨークで開かれたカンファレンスにて飛び出しました。
“The protocol of bitcoin is going to be important,” he said, likening digital currencies to the likes of Napster and iTunes, products that drove rapid change in the music industry.
ビットコインのプロトコルは重要になる、と発言しています。Napster と iTunes が音楽業界を短期間のうちに変えてしまったように、ビットコインもまた金融業界を変えると考えているようです。
While refusing to predict the how future competition between the payment systems might pan out, Chenault seemed unthreatened.
“I think there’s room for a lot of players,” he said.
音楽業界のような再編は起こるものの、クレジットカード会社のような既存のプレイヤーにも十分チャンスがあるとの見方を示しています。そのため、ビットコインをはじめとする仮想通貨の存在を単に脅威とは感じていないようです。
決済のありかたが今後劇的に変わるという点は確かです。既存の仕組みも、市場変化への対応が求められることでしょう。
